Grandmaster Yoon Kak Kim Remembered

A letter from ECTC Board member Master Rex Hatfield:

I am greatly saddened to inform you of the passing of Grandmaster Yoon Kak Kim. Grandmaster Kim was a staunch supporter of collegiate Taekwondo in the United States. He had served the National Collegiate Taekwondo Association as a presidential adviser and most recently as as member of the Advisory Board. He was a team leader and coach for multiple collegiate teams from the mid-90s to the 2009 Universiade in Belgrade, Serbia.

We have lost a friend and mentor. Grandmaster Kim truly embodied the concept of "hyung" or "older brother." He encouraged us with his wise words or would bring people together so that all involved would benefit. We were fortunate to know him and will miss him deeply. Our thoughts are with his family and friends.

Respectfully,

Rex Hatfield

"Fight Team" Documentary Available Free On Youtube

In 2005, filmmaker, former league competitor and University at Buffalo alumnus Tim Gera (http://gerafilms.com/) made a student documentary film called "Fight Team". The movie follows several Cornell athletes through the 2004-2005 INCTL (now ECTC) season - worth watching for a snapshot of the ECTC culture and how much it means to many of its members!

All-Star Team Announced

The Board thanks all of the coaches who submitted applicants for the 2012-2013 ECTC All-Star Team! All of the candidates were considered very carefully by the selection committee, comprised of 5 coaches from Division 1, 2 and 3 schools. The committee and the ECTC Board agree that the sumbitted from their coaches were outstanding and we wish everyone could be included, but ultimately we are only able to select up to 5 men and 5 women for the team. The votes were sent in a blind fashion to ECTC referee chair Jaime Schulte, who tallied the results and reported them to the board and league.

In alphabetical order (by last name) your ECTC 2012-2013 All-Star team is:

Aziz Abdellahi (MIT)
Vivian Chen (Cornell)
Rae Drach (Princeton)
Jovanny Fuentes (Cornell)
Jonathan Price (Cortland)
Sam Rabkin (Cornell)
Tara Sarathi (MIT)
Jean Smith (Princeton)
Matt Weinberg (MIT)
Ajae Whittaker (U Michigan)

Congratulations All-Stars and Happy Holidays!
