First ECTC Tournament of the 2018-19 Season Kicks Off at MIT

October 20, 2018 (Cambridge, MA) - After a long summer, the 2018-19 ECTC Competition Season kicked off with a fantastic tournament held at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Over 450 athletes from 34 schools participated in a day filled with fierce competition. After Opening Ceremonies, the Poomsae Competition commenced. Each division was filled with stiff competition and with the following individuals medalling:

After the Poomsae Competition concluded, the Sparring competition immediately began. New this year to sparring was the implementation of the new Sparring rules released by USAT. The new rules did not faze any competitors, and several high energy matches were fought. The following teams and individuals fought their way to a medal:

At the end of the day, Cornell University came on top with 417 points, followed closely by MIT with 369 points and the United States Military Academy with 297 points. In Division 2, Boston University took first place with 129 points, followed by Tufts University with 79 points and NYU with 76 points. In Division 3, University of Texas at Austin, who competed in their first ECTC Tournament, took first place with 133 points, followed by University of Connecticut with 64 points and Harvard University with 32 points.
